Sharon Chalmers: Biography
Sharon Chalmers is a Toronto-born contemporary abstract and mixed media artist, currently living in Burlington, Ontario.
Following what she describes as a “rather lengthy detour” (over 20 years primarily in the airline industry) Sharon set about rediscovering her creative roots…first as therapy, then for the pure joy of it.
The journey, with various creative side-trips along the way, led Sharon from calligraphy to collage and from collage to mixed media and abstract painting. Her art often reflected her appreciation of the written word in its many forms (Japanese Shodo, signs, symbols and ancient written languages) as well as her interest in Buddhism and Celtic mythology.
Since 2004, Sharon has exhibited in many juried shows and numerous venues in Ontario, including The Hummingbird Centre (now The Sony Centre) and The Distillery in Toronto, and Williams Mill Gallery in Glen Williams. Her work is in private collections as well as the permanent public collection of the Halton Hills Cultural Centre.
Sharon has taught calligraphy in several venues and has shared her interests and techniques as a guest instructor at creativity workshops in the Halton Hills area.
Whenever possible, Sharon participates in charitable auctions, particularly those involving animal welfare.
